My Congolese is a community platform for Congolese people and the Congolese diaspora to connect, share posts, join groups, send messages, discover events, and watch or post reels.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, how it may be shared, and the choices you have when using My Congolese.

Information We Collect

• Account information, such as your email address, authentication provider details, and basic sign-in information.
• Profile information, such as your username, display name, bio, location, avatar, cover image, and onboarding choices.
• Community content you create, such as posts, comments, reactions, shares, reels, event content, group posts, uploaded images, videos, audio, and documents.
• Group and social activity, such as group memberships, join requests, invitations, friendships, direct conversations, messages, unread counts, and notifications.
• Google Contacts information, such as names and email addresses, only if you choose to import contacts for invitations. We use it to let you select invitees and save only the selected email addresses.
• Technical information, such as device, browser, IP address, log data, cookies, session information, and security or rate-limit signals.
• Analytics information if analytics tools are enabled, including activity that helps us understand how the service is used and improved.
• Support or communication information you send to us when you contact us.

How We Use Information

• To create and secure accounts, authenticate users, and keep sessions working.
• To display profiles, posts, comments, reels, groups, events, messages, and notifications to the right people.
• To operate public feeds, private group spaces, friend features, direct messages, event pages, and short-form video features.
• To show imported Google Contacts for invite selection when you explicitly connect Google Contacts.
• To store and deliver uploaded media through our storage provider.
• To protect the community, enforce rules, prevent abuse, investigate suspicious activity, and apply rate limits.
• To send account, security, confirmation, password reset, and product-related messages.
• To maintain, debug, measure, and improve My Congolese.
• To comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.

How Information Is Shared

Your information is shared based on the feature you use and the visibility of the content you choose to post.

• Public content, such as main-feed posts, public profile details, public events, public groups, and public reels, may be visible to other users and, when the site is public, potentially to visitors or search engines.
• Private group content is intended to be visible only to group members and authorized platform systems. Group admins may see membership and request activity needed to manage the group.
• Direct messages are intended to be visible to conversation participants and authorized platform systems needed to operate, secure, and moderate the service.
• Service providers may process information for hosting, authentication, database, storage, email delivery, analytics, contact import, and infrastructure services. These providers currently include services such as Supabase, Google Cloud, Google OAuth, Google People API, Resend, and analytics tools if enabled.
• We may share information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, to prevent abuse, or as part of a business transfer such as a merger or reorganization.

Public And Private Content

My Congolese includes both public and private spaces. Public spaces are designed for community visibility. Private groups and direct messages are designed for limited visibility.

Even with privacy controls, other users may copy, screenshot, download, or re-share content they can access. Please use care when sharing sensitive information.

Storage And Security

We use technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information. The platform uses Supabase for authentication, database, realtime features, and storage, with access controls for restricted content where applicable.

No online service can guarantee perfect security. If you believe your account or content has been accessed without permission, contact us as soon as possible.

Cookies And Analytics

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, protect the service, remember session information, and support core features. If Google Tag Manager or other analytics tools are enabled, they may help us understand usage patterns and improve the platform.

Your browser may allow you to limit cookies, but some features may not work properly without them.

Your Choices

• You can update certain profile information in your account settings.
• You can choose what you post and whether you participate in public or private groups.
• You can delete some content through available product controls where supported.
• You can request help with account access, deletion, or privacy questions by contacting us.
• You can clear imported Google Contacts from the invite screen, and you can manage Google account permissions through your Google account settings.

Retention

We keep information for as long as needed to provide the service, maintain records, comply with legal obligations, prevent abuse, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

Some information may remain in backups, logs, message histories, or records required for security and legal purposes after account or content deletion.

Children

My Congolese is not intended for children under 13. If we learn that we collected personal information from a child under 13 without appropriate consent, we will take steps to delete it.

International Users

My Congolese may process and store information in the United States or other locations where our service providers operate. By using the service, you understand that your information may be processed outside your country of residence.

Changes To This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the platform changes. When we make updates, we will revise the date on this page. Continued use of My Congolese after an update means the updated policy applies.
